How do you know if you've got cellulite? What is it and what causes it? Here are some facts about cellulite:

  • Cellulite is the result of having fat, water and toxins trapped in the top layers of the skin.
  • When you have cellulite your skin looks irregular and presents small nodules. That's why it's often described as 'orange peel'.
  • Cellulite is caused by a variety of factors. It can be developed due to hormonal or genetic factors, and also because of a poorly balanced diet, a sedentary lifestyle, alcohol, tobacco, tight clothing; and some psychological factors like anxiety, stress and tiredness.
  • Poor blood circulation is another cause of cellulite.
  • Oral contraceptives can make you retain water, which is one of the causes of cellulite.
